Lake County vs Ashtabula County Ice Cream Eating Contest Announced

Painesville- During the dog days of summer heat sometimes a big bowl of ice cream hits the spot perfectly. Lake County Treasurer Mike Zuren and Ashtabula County Auditor David Thomas are taking it to the next level by holding an ice cream eating contest between themselves and for kids from both counties. The whipped cream will be flying on noon Thursday, August 11th at noon during the Painesville Farmers’ Market and Job Fair at 1 Victoria Plaza.

“You can cheer your county to victory while checking out the farmers’ market and job fair,” said Lake County Treasurer Mike Zuren. The ice cream competition is being sponsored by CPs Cooler Homemade Ice Cream & Treats out of Willowick who will be supplying Auditor Thomas and Treasurer Zuren with the cool treat.

Prior to Treasurer Zuren and Auditor Thomas competing there will be a free child competition limited to ten kids who will also try their hand at the fastest time to finish their large sundae. Registration for the child competition begins at 11:30am.

“Everyone knows I love ice cream,” commented Ashtabula County Auditor David Thomas. “I am excited to be asked to compete with Treasurer Zuren and highlight the farmers market and job opportunities in Northeast Ohio.”

The Painesville Farmers’ Market and Job Fair will occur from noon to 3pm on August 11th at Veterans Park in Painesville. Ohio Means Jobs will be on hand partnering with local grocery stores, restaurants, and other businesses to provide opportunities to learn about local jobs in addition to shopping for local foods and products.

The duo are also looking into hosting a similar competition in Ashtabula County to promote farmers and merchants in the Ashtabula area too. Details for a potential follow-up ice cream contest will be available soon.
