Virtual National Day of Prayer Ceremony Held in Jefferson

Watch recording of the Virtual National Day of Prayer Ceremony Held in Jefferson

Jefferson- Several local faith leaders and County Auditor David Thomas gathered on the steps of the Old County Courthouse on a sunny and cool evening Thursday to take part of the National Day of Prayer, virtually.

“This certainly was not a traditional way to bring the community together for prayer, but I appreciate these pastors leading tonight and the folks at home who are gathering together,” shared Auditor Thomas.

The ceremony was a brief collection of four local pastors- Scott Ardary of Pentecostal Community Church, Sean Hampton of Ashtabula 1st Church of the Nazarene, and Roger and Lori Loomis of Hope Community Church. Each shared their thoughts and words of encouragement to Ashtabula County in addition to a prayer. David Thomas also gave scriptures relating to hope and the calming of fears.

Pastor Ardary focused on the uncertainty in this time and the power of God to bring hope to Ashtabula County and the Country. “There is no tragedy, no situation that is too big for God,” shared Scott Ardary.

Calming the divide among the population and asking for a sense of unity and togetherness was the message of Pastor Sean Hampton. “It is my prayer that this doesn’t just continue to divide us, but that we can find a way to stand together and be united, even if we don’t agree,” said Sean Hampton.

Pastor Roger Loomis, who in addition to serving as a Pastor, is a Hospice Chaplain, spoke to the healing power of God over those sick and their families. “I thank God for this wonderful thing, this privilege, that we have to pray. Asking for a healing wave over the country,” prayer Roger Loomis.

The final Pastor offering prayers and encouragement was Pastor Lori Loomis. She spoke to the mothers in Ashtabula County and those juggling the many roles and responsibilities of family, work, and caring for loved ones during this time. “If you’re having struggles at home, the word of God, the bible says that he is present is with you and he provides comfort and rest, all you need to do is say help,” offered Lori Loomis.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Each President has offered resolutions calling for the day of prayer and unity for the country.

“I hope this was a time of peace and reflection for those who are watching live and later on the recording. It is important to come together during all times, but especially with our nation in a crisis,” shared David Thomas.

The prayer ceremony can be viewed on Youtube through the David Thomas, Ashtabula County Auditor channel and on Facebook on the David Thomas, Ashtabula County Auditor page.
