2020 Dog Licenses on sale now in Ashtabula County

Jefferson- In addition to the holly and mistletoe this Christmas, it is also Dog License Season at the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Office. Ashtabula County Auditor David Thomas is holding a coloring contest for area children in an effort to promote dog licenses this holiday season. Participants can get their coloring sheet by stopping into the Auditor’s Office in Jefferson or going online to auditor.ashtabulacounty.us/dnn to print off a copy.

“For many families, their dog is like another member of the family,” shared Auditor Thomas. “Dog licenses help protect them and provides resources for vital services in our community. Why not have some fun in spreading the info and involve kids.”

The contest is open until December 16th by returning the finished work of art to the Auditor’s Office. These colorings will be on display in the Courthouse through the dog license season as a reminder of the importance to get pets licensed.

Renewal applications have been sent out by the Auditor’s Office by mail, but all residents are encouraged to participate in the license program. All dogs three-months-old or older must register or renew their license each year between December 1 and January 31. Licenses alert the Dog Warden of official ownership and the owner’s contact information if a dog becomes lost or a concern arises. These fees help with shelter costs and Dog Warden funds.

Licenses are $12 for a one year tag and can be purchased at the Auditor’s Office, online at the Auditor’s Website, or at one of the convenient community partners.

“A new resource for taxpayers our office has added this year is a search feature for any residents,” explained Auditor Thomas. “If you find a lost dog with a dog license, there’s no need to contact the Dog Warden or veterinarian. Instead, you can look on our website under dog licenses and find a tool to search by license number to find the owners first name and phone number.”

The winner of the dog coloring contest will receive a free 2020 dog license and a basket of art supplies for their creativity. Questions on the coloring contest or dog licenses can be directed to the Auditor’s dog license webpage or 440-576-3794. Online sales of licenses begin December 1 but are available in person or by mail prior.
