Memorial Day Ceremony Speech

On Memorial Day I had the honor of speaking at my hometown of Austinburg's Memorial Day Service. The question I posed was simple, what kind of American, family member, neighbor, and friend should we be to be worthy of the sacrifices made by these heroes? Successful Vacant Land Sale

Over 30 potential buyers packed the Ashtabula County Courthouse auxiliary room for the first in a set of two Vacant Land Sales through the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Office. The sale was a big success according to County Auditor David Thomas. 117 parcels of land were up for auction at the sale on May 15th from varying parts of Ashtabula County. Parcels are placed at this auction following years of tax delinquencies and court action. “The goal of these sales is to ensure delinquent properties, which may have thousands in back taxes not paid, are brought current and contribute to the tax rolls” shared Auditor Thomas. Woodlands Education Session June 12th

Ashtabula County Auditor David Thomas will be holding an evening education session for property owners who are interested in learning more about the Woodlands CAUV or Ohio Forest Tax Law program. Attendees are encouraged to attend on Wednesday June 12th at 6pm at Henderson Library to hear from local experts, Auditor staff, and apply for the tax savings. The two options available are the CAUV Woodlands program through the Auditor’s Office and the Ohio Forest Tax Law program through the Ohio Department of Natural Resource. Both would require 10 or more acres of woodlands and a forest management plan. Each option has certain benefits and restrictions which allow residents to choose the best pla

Tire Amnesty Day

Thousands and thousands of tires. Casey Kozlowskiand I along with many volunteers helped unload and put in large rolloffs these tires for Tire Amnesty Day, nearly 10 rolloff dumpsters already by 11am filled. This success is due to Janice Switzer and Jake Brand and their team with Community Planning. A huge beautification project for Ashtabula County! Part of your $5 parcel fee goes towards recycling and hazardous waste pick ups such as this tire collection. Thanks to Community Planning for leading this effort!

New Conveyance Policy to Give Certainty in Low Value Transfers

Effective Monday May 13, the Auditor's Office will have a new policy for transfers of property significantly below appraised value. This new guideline was the result of input from many individuals and is designed to give more certainty to residents while providing needed information our office uses for state reporting and tax district valuations. This Low Value Policy is just one of many ways we're making the Ashtabula County Auditor's office more customer focused. Click here to learn more:

Spreading the Word!

Thank you to the Geneva, Ohio Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ashtabula County CHAMBERS of Commerce for having me as their speaker yesterday! We shared information on the Auditor's Office roles and the 2020 Revaluation.

One of the responsibilities of the Auditor is to certify all Weights and Measures devices in Ashtabula County! Jim took us on a field trip to learn about how he measures gas pumps.
